"A Wail's Tale - Chapter 4 " - Andy Noel - send to a friend
The book of Jonah concludes with God asking Jonah a question about what should be the limits of God’s compassion for the world. It is ironic that Jonah is more concerned about a castor oil plant than for the people of Ninevah. Do we struggle with loving our enemies as well? This final chapter provides a bridge from a great gospel of the Hebrew Bible into the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"A Wail's Tale - Chapter 3" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
In seven words Jonah’s sermon converts the people of Ninevah. God forgives their sin. Don’t we wish that repentance and reconciliation with God could be so simple? Sometimes it seems that our habitual “character defects” just don’t improve. Come hear a good word of how we can know true repentance and peace with God.

"A Wail's Tale - Chapter 2" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
Wailing out to God seems like the right thing to do when we’re in the belly of a whale. But is that “prayer?” Over the ages many have speculated about true prayer to God. Come hear about some of the keys to strengthen your prayer life.

"A Wail's Tale" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
The book of Jonah is a brilliant satire. We learn about God not from what Jonah does, but what he doesn’t do. God gives us opportunities to witness when we least expect it, often when we’re on our way somewhere else.

"Three Portraits of Discipleship 'Peter'” - Andy Noel - send to a friend
The Apostle Thomas needed proof that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Faith for Thomas needed to fit with the facts. His discipleship extended all the way to India, once he could see Jesus resurrected with his own eyes. For some of us we need the same thing. If your faith is flagging a little bit or if you need more data, come hear the good news that Thomas has for you.

"Three Portraits of Discipleship 'Peter'” - Andy Noel - send to a friend
Peter was the most prominent and influential disciple during the life of Jesus and immediately following his resurrection. However, his prominence and role diminished later in his life as the church grew. His role was like that of an entrepreneur. Come find out what we can learn from Peter’s role as we grow together!

The story of the “rich young man” is one of the saddest in all of the gospels. What kind of security was this man seeking? How are we to interpret Jesus’ response to him? How is Jesus speaking to us? Come hear about the ONE thing that you cannot lack in your life.

"The Difficult Sayings of Jesus 'The Blind Leading the Blind'"- Andy Noel
- send to a friend
Sometimes we find what Jesus says is difficult not because we can’t understand it, but because we can’t follow his guidance. This is the case with Jesus’ teachings this week on spiritual blindness. If you have ever had a conflict with another person or felt burned out in leadership, Jesus has a good word for you this week!

"The Difficult Sayings of Jesus 'Armed and Dangerous'"- Andy Noel
- send to a friend
This week we study jarring words from Jesus regarding his mission and the loyalties that he demands upon us. What does it mean to "bring a sword?" What are the expectations of a disciple in loyalties to faith and family? Can our faith really divide us from loved ones? Come as we work out some answers to these difficult sayings of Jesus.

"The Difficult Sayings of Jesus 'The Syrophoenician Woman'" - Kristin Watts - send to a friend
There are many interpretations on why Jesus dealt with this woman as he did. The story can teach us to be bold, to be steady, and to be aware in our relationship with Jesus.

"Talking the Walk" - Andy Noel

Pentecost is the birthday of the church. The power of Pentecost is found in communication. Peter’s first, powerful sermon resulted in 3000 souls coming to Christ. What would it take to have this kind of power come to our church?

"While You Were Sleeping" - Andy Noel

Our Bible lesson teaches about “conversion.” What happens in the spirit that causes a person to be converted to Christ? If we can understand the answer to that question, perhaps we can be instruments of God’s converting power in the world. Come tap into that Spirit this Sunday!

"IPOD God - Our House" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
The song “Our House” describes an idealized home where everything is “easy.” Too bad life doesn’t work that way! God responded to the people of Israel after their house was destroyed with a new covenant of unconditional blessing. Come hear how we communicate that new covenant to God’s people.

"The Long and Winding Road – The Turn of Extravagant Love" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
This morning we continue our Lenten road in the town of Bethany. Mary, sister of Lazarus, demonstrates extravagant love toward Jesus in the anointing of his feet. We examine how God loves us extravagantly and how we make our “turn” by returning that fragrant offering to God and to neighbor.

"The Long and Winding Road – The Turn of Regeneration" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
This week our spiritual turn is about regeneration. Our ability to be resilient in life, to rebound from failure and setback, is tied intimately to our spiritual state. Spring cleaning is not just for the houses in which we live. Is our spiritual “house” clean of resentments, false pride, and over-inflated sense of self? Once we trim away these excesses, we are ready to bear incredible fruit for God’s purposes.

"The Long and Winding Road – The Turn of Courage" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
The Long and Winding Road that is our Lenten Journey is filled with difficult turns. One turn of character that we are called to make is to point out and make a difference in the injustices of our age. Jesus showed enormous courage to speak for God in the face of Herod, an unjust dictator of his day. What are the systems of injustice that we face in our times? Why has God placed us on Pinehurst Drive in this community?

"Sowing Seeds of Giving" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
Today is Commitment Sunday. It is the day in which we re-commit for the coming year to be loyal to God and His church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. That’s all of our being! Jesus teaches us to seek first the kingdom of God and ALL things will be added unto us. God’s Kingdom is the spiritual state in which everyone and everything is submitted to the perfect will of God. Are you fully submitted to God, leaving every worry and every care to Him? Come find the strength to fulfill the statement, “In God I Trust!”

"Pure or Purell"
- Andy Noel - send to a friend
Lent is primarily about identifying with and accompanying those who are being driven by the Spirit to make the wilderness journey - towards baptism, towards reconciliation, or towards vocation. Ash Wednesday begins the wilderness journey of Lent. Lent is about "roughing it," about letting go of what's distracting us, and getting back to basics, individually and corporately.

"Sowing Seeds of Service" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
This week we continue our stewardship emphasis as we celebrate the ministry of Christian service. The Apostle Paul informs us that ALL are gifted by the Holy Spirit in unique ways – some as teachers, some as healers, some as helpers, some in leadership – to build up the body of Christ. There are over 20 unique gifts of the Holy Spirit. All gifts are important and can be used by God to transform our world into God’s Kingdom. How have you been gifted to participate in Christian service at AUMC?

"Sowing Seeds of Prayer" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
“To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing,” said Martin Luther. Prayer is learning to be alone with God. Prayer is at the center of Jesus’ teaching about the spiritual life. What does Jesus mean when he teaches His disciples to “ask, seek and knock” in their prayer life? Come explore God's Word about growing in your prayer life.

"Are You Biblically Irrelevant?" - Andy Noel - send to a friend
Some in our culture comment that the Holy Bible and churches are not relevant to the difficult issues of our modern times. As professing Christians we share blame for not living our faith in authentic ways. We have to ask ourselves, “Am I Biblically relevant?” The call to God’s faithful is to apply Biblical teachings deeply in our lives. Come hear how our forebearers did this and ways we can continue to write Biblical principles on the "doorposts" of our lives!

All of us are biblically illiterate! Yes, that’s right. The Bible is a bottomless well of sacred stories, eternal wisdom, divine guidance, endless encouragement and admonishment for the human soul. We should always feel we don’t know enough, can’t get enough, and can’t ever master this holy book. Come find out your literacy level and how you can increase that literacy in 2010.
