The Atascocita United Methodist Church chartered Cub Scout Pack 56 in 1991 to provide the Scouting program to young boys from the area. The Pack currently has over 50 registered youth and 17 BSA trained leaders. BSA also recognizes Cub Scout Pack 56 as a 2008 Quality Unit.
Cub Scouting is a home and neighborhood centered program designed to support the values you teach at home. Cub Scouts learn respect for God, country and other people, as well as other positive skills:
- Physical skills through sports, crafts and games
- Sportsmanship by “Doing Your Best”
- Getting along with others
- Personal achievement
- Academic skills
- Positive decision-making
- Independence
The Cub Scout program is based on age-appropriate activities. The boys are divided into small groups of 6-8 boys (called Dens) according to their grade in school. Boys work on achievements at den meetings and at home to earn their ranks. Boys attend weekly den meetings and the whole family attends monthly Pack meetings, where the boys showcase their skills, participate in skits and games, and receive their awards. The boys also have the opportunity to experience the outdoors by enjoying many family campouts.
