Saturday's Child
Saturday’s Child is a local ministry which provides very poor and needy Humble area children and their families with one bag of food each week. The food is delivered to their homes on Saturday mornings and is enough to help them through the weekend. Our church has a group of eleven families that we have committed to help each weekend.
Saturday’s Child has been a wonderful blessing to everyone who has been involved in the program. In December, our church hosted a Breakfast With Santa party that the kids are still talking about. Through generous donations of church members and with help from the “Blue Santas” a Houston Police Department Swat Team group, and also FaithQuest UMC, every child received a Christmas gift and the parents or guardians received a $25.00 gift card to Walmart. There are about 40 children who benefit from Saturday’s Child, just from our church. Other churches and individuals are also participating.
The program is funded through donations of either food or money. Each bag of groceries is approximately $12.00 to $15.00. A group or individual can join this ministry in several ways – either by volunteering to take over a Saturday, or by contributing to one part of the program, such as buying the food, sorting the food into individual bags, delivering the food or making a financial donation to the ministry.
Many groups and individuals are already serving in this ministry but more help is needed. This is truly an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others. We praise God for the way He has already blessed this program.
Please be in prayer about any support you might like to give. You can make a difference to children in our community who don’t have to go hungry on the weekends anymore.
Volunteers are needed for the second weekend of each month to help sort and deliver groceries.
