Communion

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body that is for you.  Do this in remembrance of me.’  In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood.  Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

After reading the Acts and 1st Corinthian texts, reflect on these questions…

  1. What is my earliest recollection of having fun and fellowship at a church meal?
  2. What is my earliest recollection of receiving Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper?
  3. In what ways do I connect to Christ and my fellow Christians as I prepare to receive Holy Communion this Sunday?

This Week's Message
“Feasting and Fellowship:  Finding a Place @ God’s Table”
Acts 2:42-43
1 Cor. 11:23-26
Today we begin our September journey of Christian feasting and fellowship.  Have you ever heard of a “love feast” or “agape meal?”  Wonder where it comes from?  It is one of the church’s oldest traditions.  Our faith still grows when we break bread together with other Christians.  Come experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of breaking bread together!
